About six months after I got home from my mission, I was thinking about marriage and about my first son (who turned out to be Roice, Song 012<\/a>), and I wrote a song about the farm and about my Dad (Howard Nelson, Song 011<\/a>). It was the spring, and I wrote about the spring. About a flower pushing \u201cit\u2019s petals through broken twigs and dried up leaves,\u201d and how \u201cthe flower soon will bloom and colors bright will be in sight of all of the country side.\u201d About a squirrel digging \u201cthrough dirt that\u2019s covered up his door.\u201d About \u201cpreparing for the snow which must come once again.\u201d And about \u201ca little boy walking with his hand within the hand of an old man who means so much to him.\u201d Then closing by tying together the walk, the flower, and the squirrel. \u201cSpring has come, bringing new birth of seeds planted yesterday,\u201d \u201cawakening a resting world,\u201d \u201cbringing new life, and memories of a job well done,\u201d \u201creflections of work done today.\u201d I\u2019ve always liked this song. When we started doing Nelson Grandkids Summer Science Camp, I realized the song was really about me, and I am \u201cthe old man\u201d who \u201cis the young man\u2019s Granddad\u201d and I\u2019m glad to be able to \u201ctake the boy(s and girls) for a walk in the countryside.\u201d<\/p>\n
